How to Make Prime Day Successful For Your Small Business

If you’re a seller on Amazon, you’ve likely already started preparing for 2023 Prime Day. But the online sale extravaganza can also be a good marketing opportunity for other small businesses this summer.

Look for ways to tap into the buzz around Prime Day, around July, to increase visibility for your business, products, and services. Here are a few ideas on how to do so.

Promote Local and Early

During Prime Day, some shoppers prefer to shop at local businesses, so make sure to appeal to that audience.

For example, check your business listing on sites like Google, so your profile is current and ready for customers who do a local search during Prime.

Also, get ahead of the curve with your promotions and campaigns -- many Prime Day consumers start looking for deals weeks in advance.

Offer Discounts

Use the Prime Day hype to draw customers in with special coupons and discounts on your products or services. Make it applicable several days before Prime Day to catch early shoppers. Or run a one-day lightning sale.

Also, look for how you can reward loyalty during Prime Day -- such as creating a special savings code or coupon for current customers who make a purchase.

Pitch back-to-school deals to draw consumers looking for that category of items during Prime Day if you offer related products or services.

Increase Online Presence

Kick up your visibility online, from your email and website activity to posts and paid media on social media platforms -- you want your business brand to get in front of the swarm of shoppers looking online for Prime Day deals.

In addition to social media tagging, consider running paid ads on Facebook and Instagram, as well as on search engines, such as Google, to increase your chances of being seen by more potential customers.

Expect Increased Sales

It’s a good idea to expect your marketing efforts (and those of Amazon) to pay off, so plan accordingly for more sales than usual during Prime Day shopping.

In addition to inventory, ensure you have enough staffing to handle the influx of business and that your process and other operations are in place for increased sales.

Advertise on Amazon

Take a look at Amazon’s advertising options to see if it would help drive sales and product visibility for Prime Day.

There is a free option called “Stores,” which are custom multipage shopping destinations on Amazon for individual brands that let you showcase your brand story and product offering. “They require no website experience to use, and it’s free.”

Paid advertising includes Amazon’s Sponsored Products -- ads for individual product listings that appear on shopping results pages and product detail pages.

With Amazon’s Sponsored Brands ads, you get your brand logo, a custom headline, and a selection of your products featured in ads that appear in shopping results pages.

Or there’s Sponsored Display – ads intended to reach specific audiences, with ad placements that appear on and off Amazon.

2022 Prime Day Sales

Last year, Amazon’s selling partners, mostly small and medium businesses, reported record sales during Prime Day — registering sales growth that outpaced Amazon’s own retail business, according to Amazon. That alone should peak your interest!

Further, e-commerce sales go up overall because both Prime and non-Prime members are looking online for deals and promotions before, during, and after the two-day event.

Last year, sales during Prime Day reached a new record high, amounting to $12 billion, most of which came from the U.S., according to Statista.
