This guide shows you how to secure your Hargray ARRIS Cable Modem after you have removed the Dorkbot threat or other malicious software from your Microsoft Windows computer. The illustrations below show you how to change the local password on the cable modem and make certain that the “Enable DNS Override” check box is NOT checked.
Step 1: Browse to http://192.168.0.1/ and log into the modem as shown, entering the default password, ‘password’, and click ‘Apply’.
Step 2: Click ‘Change Password’ as shown. If the page does not include this option, skip to Step 4 for alternate instructions.
Step 3: Enter a new password and click ‘Set’. If a message is displayed indicating the new password is accepted, skip to Step 6; otherwise, try the alternate method outlined in Steps 4 and 5.
Step 4: (alternate method) click on the ‘Login Settings’ button as indicated by the red arrow.
Step 5: Enter you new password and click ‘Apply’.
Step 6: Click the ‘LAN Setup’ tab. Make sure the ‘DNS Override’ box is NOT checked. Click ‘Apply’.
