Standing at the podium, Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka’s smile said it all. She, along with other community leaders and residents, have reason to smile with the growth of our Lowcountry Broadband Plan. In just one year, we’ve laid the foundation to provide world-class broadband internet to the region and make the best even better!
“What Hargray is doing is helping our region stay ahead of the times when it comes to Internet capabilities,” Sulka said. “Their fiber infrastructure and investment in our communities gives people another reason to live, work and play here. Whether residents or tourists to the region, people expect to be able to connect to the Internet, and we’re glad a local company is capable of providing that.”
We hosted the 1-Year Anniversary Celebration for Lowcountry Broadband at our Hilton Head office on Wednesday, July 20, and kicked things off with a fun video that recaps just how far we’ve come:
The Lowcountry Broadband Plan has been a true community effort. We’ve worked hand-in-hand with local government leaders in Hilton Head, Bluffton and Beaufort to make sure what we’re doing is in line with the wants and needs of the people who live, work and play here. We’ve already worked with eight communities—Brays Island Plantation, Belfair, Haig Point, Hilton Head Plantation, Mill Creek Plantation, Palmetto Dunes Plantation, Sea Pines Plantation and Sun City Plantation—to get their residents to see for themselves what our fiber network is capable of.
“Lowcountry Broadband is the modern ingredient that mixes with our historical significance to create a destination that combines the best of the past, present and the future,” said Greg DeLoach, assistant town manager of Hilton Head. “I can’t wait to see where we go from here!”
And that’s the most exciting part about it all – this is just the beginning. Faster speeds, improved reliability and community WiFi are all in the pipeline. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our community partners, and also the talent and hard work of our incredible team here at Hargray. They have gone the extra mile to help people as upgrades have been made, and they deserve all the credit in the world for Lowcountry Broadband’s success so far.
Thank you to everyone who’s helped make this past year a huge success!
