i-Guide Upgrade FAQs
Why is the guide changing?
The new guide includes intuitive functionality and new features to improve your experience.
Will this release affect my settings or scheduled recordings?
No, not at all. When your cable box gets the new guide, i-Guide HD upgrade retains all your settings, scheduled DVR one-time and series recordings, and parental controls.
How will the guide display if I don’t have HD service or an HDTV but I have an SD TV?
The new i-Guide HD design will automatically adjust to display in the correct format based on the TV connection – HDTV will get the 16:9 format and standard definition TVs will get the 4:3 format.
Are there any changes to the remote-control functions or guide functionalities?
More good news – no new remote-control functions to learn. You can continue to use your remote control in the same way you do today to access all guide functions.
What can I do if I have an SD TV and experience a poor image quality of the guide?
If you have a SD TV connected to an HD cable box and have poor image quality of the guide, you can follow these steps to improve the quality:
- Select Setup from Main Menu (From remote control, press MENU 2x then page down)
- Select Guide Setup from the Setup Menu
- Select “TV Type” and choose “SD TV (tube)” (the other option is “HD TV (flat panel)”)
- Exit out of the guide
This setting will be retained and can be changed at any time (i.e., if you get an HDTV). This selection will adjust color saturation and font to improve image quality of the guide for older TV models.
With HD Auto-Tune, is there still the option to “Watch on HD” on the Flip Bar?
With HD Auto-Tune, the “Watch in HD” button on the Flip Bar will not display. If you turn off the HD Auto-Tune in Setup, then the “Watch in HD” button will display on the Flip Bar (when applicable).
Can I turn off HD Auto-Tune?
Yes. You can turn-off the HD Auto-tune feature in the Setup menu.
With HD Auto-Tune turned on, will recordings automatically record in HD?
The format a program records in is based on recording settings. For new recordings, the program will default to record on the HD channel. However, you can adjust recording channel in the recording settings menu.
Do Parental Control settings apply to the HD channel when the TV auto-tunes?
Yes. Parental Control settings carry over to the auto-tuned HD channel. SD & HD complementary channels will maintain the same settings.
Why does the STB display the SD channel number after auto-tuning to the HD channel?
HD Auto-tune happens in the background – so even if you tune to SD channel, the cable box will automatically tune to the HD equivalent, but still display SD channel you tuned to. You can continue to enter in their familiar channel numbers as always, and still take advantage of watching content in the highest resolution without having to memorize new channel numbers.
Can I change the size of the font or scaled video?
No. With the new high-resolution format, the font was updated to ensure the best display and readability on an HDTV, and the general font size remains.
Can I change the color?
Changing guide colors from the Setup Menu is allowed. The steps are:
- Go to the “Main Menu”
- Select “Setup”
- Select "Guide Color Setup”
- Choose a Color Scheme Theme
Can I go back to the old design?
Once the new guide, with intuitive functionality and new features, is installed, the old guide will no longer be available.
