About Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB)

The Emergency Broadband Benefit is a temporary FCC program to help households struggling to pay for Internet service during the pandemic. The program will provide a monthly discount of up to $50 per household towards broadband service for eligible households.

This program is available to both current and new Hargary Internet customers.

A household is eligible for the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program if one member of the household currently participates in one of these federal assistance programs or experienced substantial loss of income since February 29, 2020:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Medicaid
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance
  • Income at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit Programs
  • Approved for free or reduced lunch program through USDA Community Eligibility Provision
  • Experienced substantial loss of income since Feb 29, 2020 (<$99K for single; <$198K for joint)
  • Received Pell Grant in current award year

How do I know if I qualify for the FCC Emergency Broadband Benefit program?What kind of discount will I receive?
Eligible households will receive a monthly discount of up to $50/per month on qualifying broadband plans available through Hargray.
Is Hargray also offering the one-time discount of up to $100 towards the purchase of a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers?
Hargray is not participating in that portion of the Emergency Broadband Benefit program.
How long will the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program and credit be available?
The Emergency Broadband Benefit is an emergency program developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program will end once the program funds are exhausted, or six months after the Department of Health and Human Services declares an end to the pandemic, whichever comes first.
Will I be notified before this program ends?
Yes, you will be notified at least 30 days before the Emergency Broadband Benefit program ends.
What will happen to my service when the program ends?

You will need to opt into your service level, rate, and our general terms and conditions at the conclusion of the program to continue service.

How and when will the Emergency Broadband Benefit be applied to my bill?
The benefit will be applied to your bill in conjunction with your bill cycle.
Are all Hargray internet plans eligible for a discount?
No, only identified plans are eligible. Availability of internet plans and rates vary by location. Call 877.HARGRAY (877.427.4729) for more information about eligible plans in your area.
If my service costs less than $50, will I get the full $50 credit?
No, the discount applied will be limited to your actual charges for internet service, up to a maximum of $50.
I was not approved for Emergency Broadband Benefit Program. Can I appeal?

Please follow any recommendations available at Universal Service Administrative Company, as this organization determines program eligibility.

Can I use this credit to pay down an old bill?
No. This benefit is only applicable to current monthly service costs.
Can I receive the Emergency Broadband Benefit if I also receive Lifeline?

Yes, you may receive both Lifeline and the Emergency Broadband Benefit. To learn more about Lifeline, visit https://www.hargray.com/federal-lifeline-program

If I already receive Lifeline Benefits will I automatically receive the Emergency Broadband Benefit?

No. You must request enrollment in the Emergency Broadband Benefit program and chose an eligible service plan. You can choose to receive the benefit from your current Lifeline service provider or another participating provider.
