Hilton Head Island, S.C. — September 13, 2017 – Hargray’s core network remained fully operational throughout Hurricane Irma with minimal loss of service for Internet, television and telephone. Although services remain operational, they are dependent on the restoration of commercial power to homes and businesses.
Before, during and after the storm, Hargray served alongside emergency management, first responders, and electric utilities in its South Carolina and Georgia operating areas to quickly identify and address critical needs to speed community recovery. Hargray’s network, which was built to withstand storms like Irma, was able to provide government officials and our customers the ability to track the storm and its impacts and stay connected with the community, friends, family and neighbors.
“As a regional company with an intense focus on our local markets, we understand the importance of staying connected, and how vital it is to have your Internet, television and phone services available, especially at times like these” Senior Vice President, Chris McCorkendale said. “While we were pleased with our response to Hurricane Matthew last year, I could not be more proud of the way our team applied lessons learned to develop an even stronger plan, and then executed it with precision and urgency across our expanded markets in Georgia and South Carolina.”
Hargray’s more than 450 local employees were strategically positioned in the affected areas throughout the storm to ensure the fastest possible response and restoration.
“Our field teams, which include some of the most dedicated individuals you will find, spent the days before the storm working around the clock to prepare our facilities to withstand potential water damage and began repairs on Monday afternoon immediately after the storm subsided,” said David Armistead, Senior Vice President, who spent the day assisting the field teams in their preparations and assessing facilities for damages. Hargray’s distribution facilities did not sustain any severe damages, and where damage did occur, the company’s field technicians have worked diligently to restore service and will continue to do so until restoration is fully complete.
Hargray services should automatically restore after commercial power has restored. Hargray customers are encouraged to contact Hargray at 1-877-HARGRAY (1-877-427-4729) or email CustomerInquiry@htc.hargray.com for assistance. For further updates, go to www.hargray.com.
