HARGRAY TO BRING FIBER OPTIC SERVICES TO VALDOSTA, GEORGIA RESIDENTS, BUSINESSES

Fiber network will provide world-class reliability and Internet speeds

Valdosta, GA, December 8, 2016 — The residents and businesses of the greater Valdosta, Georgia area will soon have a new option when it comes to Internet, television and telephone service. Hargray Communications, a leading communications services provider in Georgia and South Carolina, announced today that it is bringing its fiber optic network to Valdosta.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Michael Gottdenker recently visited the area, speaking with local business owners about the benefits Hargray’s fiber optic network will bring.  “We are thrilled to partner with the Valdosta community and appreciate the early support and commitment of the Langdale family as our business plans and network deployment proceeds, enabling Hargray to provide the fastest, most reliable Internet service to businesses and residents in Valdosta,” Gottdenker said. “In today’s digital economy, it is vital to have access to advanced communications services.  Our state-of-the-art fiber optic network will connect directly to businesses and residents to ensure they receive the very best reliability and speed available today and into the future.”

Hargray selected Valdosta from among many other Georgia cities due to its vibrant business community, local leadership that is supportive of our investment, a welcoming local government, and the demonstrated need for advanced state of the art last-mile fiber optic services.

Among the people Gottdenker met were representatives from The Langdale Company, with which Hargray will partner to provide services to many of its ventures, including Kinderlou Forest Golf Course.  After touring Kinderlou Forest, where Hargray is beginning construction of its fiber-to-the-home network, Jim Langdale, Executive Vice President of Operations for Langdale Industries, said, “It’s an exciting period of growth for Kinderlou right now. On the heels of completing home sites around a beautiful 40 acre lake, our newest phase will soon be the first in Valdosta to offer residents fiber optic cable to their door.  The Langdale family believes that Hargray’s investment in building a robust fiber network in Valdosta makes our community a more desirable destination to live and work.  People will see that we have the technological infrastructure they want and need, and they’ll make Valdosta home for their families and businesses.”

With so much reliance on the Internet, Hargray’s dedicated fiber optic network will provide businesses in Valdosta the fastest Internet speeds the region has ever had.  This allows companies to grow as their business does, scaling their Internet service to meet demand.

HARGRAY’S STRONG NETWORK, LOCAL PRESENCE MAINTAIN SERVICES THROUGHOUT HURRICANE MATTHEW

More than 400 local employees provide constant Internet, television and telephone service to residents and businesses

Hilton Head Island, S.C. — October 11, 2016 – Hargray Communications’ core network remained online throughout Hurricane Matthew as it made its way up the East Coast and through the Lowcountry. In areas that have power, Hargray’s Internet, television and telephone services remained operational.

As of Tuesday morning, two-thirds of Hargray’s inland customers affected by the hurricane and half of its customers on Hilton Head and other islands now have services restored. This is due in large part to the strength and quality of Hargray’s network, as well as the company’s local workforce that was able to respond quickly to repair any damages.

“As a local company, we understand how difficult a time this can be, and how comforting it is to have your Internet, television and telephone services available,” Hargray Chairman and CEO Michael Gottdenker said. “I’m proud of the plan our team put together to be ready for this and how our team executed – all while taking care of their own homes and families. I’m proud of all of them, and this community. Overall, while there will be some equipment that needs to be replaced, our network performed exactly as we expected and continues to perform extremely well.”

Providing services through a natural disaster allowed customers to stay informed with the latest weather advisories and government warnings. Hargray’s more than 400 local employees worked around the clock throughout the storm, both in-market at the network operation center and remotely after evacuating their own families. Hargray worked with Palmetto Electric to ensure services were available to Beaufort County Emergency Management and other emergency service providers. Likewise, when a local hospital re-opened its Emergency Department on Sunday afternoon, their voice and data services were operational.

“Our outside plant teams began repairs early Monday morning,” said Gottdenker, who is spending Tuesday touring Hargray’s facilities. “Our goal is to complete necessary plant repairs before our customers return to the area so that their service will be operational upon their return. We also have commercial and residential technicians in the area who will respond to priority dispatch as needed until such time our full field force returns to the area. This is a time when having a local service provider makes such a difference and we’re proud to serve our community and provide the most reliable and responsive service in the Lowcountry.”

If a customer’s power is restored, Hargray services should automatically return to normal status. However, if that doesn’t happen, customers are encouraged to reset their modem or set-top box by powering off the device and disconnecting from the power source. After 30 seconds, plug the device back in, power it back on, and allow it to reset. The process may take up to 2 minutes.

If the problem persists, Hargray customers are asked to call the call center at 1-877-HARGRAY (1-877-427-4729) or send an email to CustomerInquiry@htc.hargray.com. Local retail stores in Beaufort and Bluffton reopened Tuesday, and the store in Hilton Head Island is expected to reopen Wednesday. For further updates, go to www.hargray.com.

HARGRAY ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF LOWCOUNTRY BROADBAND FIBER CONSTRUCTION INTO SUN CITY HILTON HEAD

BLUFFTON, S.C. — April 5, 2016 — Hargray announced today plans to extend the Lowcountry Broadband Plan into Bluffton’s Sun City Hilton Head community. On February 22, Hargray began actively upgrading network infrastructure in Sun City neighborhoods south of Highway 278. Although Fiber-to-the-Home network infrastructure is available to Hargray customers living north of Highway 278, the arrival of Lowcountry Broadband fiber construction efforts will bring state-of-the-art Fiber-to-the-Home technology to the remaining 5,000 homes in Sun City’s southern region. The construction efforts within Sun City mark the first community outside of Hilton Head Island to benefit from the Lowcountry Broadband Plan. Construction is expected to be completed by fall of 2016.

Since the June 2015 joint announcement of The Lowcountry Broadband Plan with community leaders from the Towns of Hilton Head Island and Bluffton, Beaufort County, and the Hilton Head Island / Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, Hargray has been working with several communities to gauge their interest in this future-proofed technology.  Hilton Head Plantation, Sea Pines Plantation and Haig Point Community have all shared their interest and support for bringing Fiber-to-the-Home technology to each of their respective communities, and network infrastructure upgrades are actively underway in each community. These improvements are expected to bolster home values and increase Internet speeds to 100 times faster than the national average.

Sherman Britton, Executive Director of Sun City Hilton Head Community Association, expressed excitement over the network upgrades, saying “availability of state-of-the-art Fiber-to-the-Home infrastructure to all residents throughout the Sun City community is an important step in ensuring our community remains technologically relevant. Hargray’s ability to provide superior internet speeds inside our residents’ homes is an asset to current and future homeowners. These advanced technological capabilities will provide our community members with the level of service that most are accustomed to from other regions of the United States.  Our residents are tech savvy and know the benefits that such advanced technology will provide to complement their active lifestyles.”

Gerrit Albert, Vice President of Marketing for Hargray Communications, added, “We are excited to extend the Lowcountry Broadband Plan to the Sun City community. In doing so, we are poised to provide residents advanced High Speed Internet services and build a telecommunications network infrastructure that is capable of rapidly responding to ever-increasing demands and advancements in technology.”

The Lowcountry Broadband Plan is a framework to deliver Gigabit Internet speeds, and has three objectives:

  • Provide Gigabit Internet services to residential communities where there is demonstrated demand;
  • Deliver Gigabit services to interested businesses; and
  • Provide Gigabit WiFi in public areas, including select beaches.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — January 15, 2016 — Hargray announced today that it will begin expanding fiber construction into the residential sections of Sea Pines Plantation as part of the Lowcountry Broadband Plan. Since December, Hargray has been updating mainline fiber infrastructure within Sea Pines in order to further extend fiber based services to commercial and high density areas, such as villas and condominiums.

“The fiber infrastructure will enable Hargray to respond to the growing telecommunications needs of businesses and residents, while also dramatically improving our overall telecommunications customer experience. To date, Hargray has commenced construction of Fiber-to-the-Home technology to the residents of Hilton Head Plantation and Daufuskie Island’s Haig Point Community. HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — January 12, 2016 —Hargray today announced an agreement to provide fiber services to Daufuskie Island’s Haig Point as part of the Lowcountry Broadband Plan announced in June.  This announcement comes only three weeks after more than 50% of Hilton Head Plantation residents agreed to subscribe to Hargray service as an inducement to get fiber services.
